Assistance with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis

Companies without in-house capabilities in the area of gas and liquid flow modeling are welcome to contact us for their flow investigation needs. Worked at U. S. Steel in the area of fluid flow analysis of molten steel flow primarily in the area of continuous casting. My area of expertise includes physical modeling (water models) and math modeling to investigate fluid flow models in reactors such as the tundish, ladle, blast furnace trough, galvanizing cell and other reactors. Some examples of CFD modeling are given below.

Steel Flow Into A Casting Tundish

The figure on the right shows molten steel flow into a continuous casting tundish from inlet at left and flowing though holes in a baffle wall from left to right. The flow finally exits the tundish from well at floor bottom on right side after crossing over a dam located on floor bottom near the well. The contours are of a short pulse injection of tracer along with the flow which move along with the steel flow.

Steel Flow Into A Casting Tundish

The figure on the right shows molten steel flow into a continuous casting tundish from inlet at left and exiting the tundish from well at floor bottom on right side. No flow control devices are present in this configuration. The blue arrows represent steel velocities in the tundish.

Tapping of Steel from an EAF Furnace

Steel Tapping from EAF - After 1 second

CFD modeling of the initial tapping process was investigated for different throughputs and tapping angles to investigate their effects on the point of impingement in the empty ladle below
